| Having had our fill of the ex-BN mainline, we headed south to the former Santa Fe mainline. Santa Fe was famous for running fast freights on its line, a tradition BNSF continues. This intermodal train, for example, is blowing through farm country in the neighborhood of 70 mph. A polarizer darkens the sky and accentuates the few clouds. Although lacking in scenic splendor, this is one of my favorite trainwatching locations. A few years ago I spent the entire day at this dirt road crossing and not a single automobile passed me. But there are always plenty of trains! |
