A large crowd of well-wishers and photographers gathered at Milwaukee's Amtrak depot this evening to greet train 8, the eastbound Empire Builder, on the occasion of the last day of service of engineer Craig Willett. Craig had just been relieved by his son, Scott Willett, who, in this photo, has just notched open the throttle to begin the last leg of the trip to Chicago. A photographer at left illuminates the scene for us. That flash helped capture Craig's tip of the hat salute to his son, casting a shadow on the flank of Amtrak locomotive 98.

What a fitting way to end a 42 year railroad career.
